Here is an activity I use when we're talking about making inferences in class. I have used it in ENG 3E, 2P, 1P, and 1L. It is very interactive and doesn't take very long, or you could extend it and talk about a lot of different aspects, depending on your class (more academic classes might be interested in talking about it differently). You will need a copy of the book,
Zoom, by Istvan Banyai. I have committed a literary crime and taken my copy of the book apart and laminated each of the pages individually, so I can use it for this activity. I still have the cover and keep the pages inside because it felt so wrong to rip a book apart! :) You then give each of the students a few pages of the book, so that the entire book is distributed to the class, and then ask them to try and put the book into the order the author had it in. Ask them to look for clues and explain how they ended up choosing the order of the pages. I've attached an outline of the activity that I found online, as well as a picture of the cover of the book. There is a second book, also by Istvan Banyai,
Re-Zoom, but I haven't got a copy of it yet. If you look online, there are also activities for using with that book. Click on
Zoom to access a copy of the activity and on
Re-Zoom to access the list that details the original order of the pages of
Zoom. I found this copy of the activity on
http://www.wilderdom.com/. They have lots of other interesting stuff there too.

While I was looking for where I originally found this activity, I found a video on YouTube that shows the book being zoomed out from beginning to end. Unless you've seen a copy of the book, it might be difficult to understand the video, but the videographer is going through the pages of the book, one by one. You can check it out below.
